Designing the Green Room

By
Tara Nolan

Shawn: The garden was influenced by Gerhard Richter's painting, Abstractes Bild, through its composition of space, feeling and texture. I was also inspired by the creative process of Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe, a British landscape designer who developed the idea of making relationships between modern painting and landscape design.

A plan and sketch for the garden was illustrated and refined to convey the concept.

Images from magazines were also collected to help define the vision. The garden for the Green Room required three main areas: a stage and seating area for the diverse presentations and demonstrations organized by Aldona Satterthwaite, an area for Master Gardeners where they could be approached by visitors and answer any garden questions, and a make and take area. There people could make a floral display with Kate Seaver, which could then be taken home with them.
