I planted a row of Glads in the veggie garden last Saturday. I plant them about 6 inches deep but just cover the bulb. As they grow I keep adding soil in the hole till level with the ground, that makes stronger plants .
I have all my Dahlias growing in pots , wait another 2 weeks to plant in the ground. You should be safe then in your erea.

I;ve had them rot on me if planted in May

Planting glads
It appears she is in GTA, greater Toronto area in Ontario. Wise to follow advice of the Ontario gardeners perhaps....pots would definitely be okay, u can move them in easy if there is a frost warning.DMG

Glads & Dahlias
I live in Maritimes, We are just getting rid of the snow and the ground is very soggy. I plant my Glads in the house in aluminum trays you buy in Supermarket for roasting Turkey. I will start them Next week. I plant them about June 1 when all frost is over.By then we can till the glad area so I can plant them deep.
I used to start Dahlias but now just wait til mid may & the ground is dried up some & then plant them.

I planted a Dahlia late last May and it came up about a month later. Watch out for those squirrels though. Mine like to dig up the bulb when the leaves come out.
