garden edger
Hi - we are looking for an edger for our many flower beds. I looked at the "edge hog", but it only makes a trench two inches deep. With a double lot of gardens, I do not want to be doing this every other week.
We are looking for an "edger" that will dig a trench about 4 inches deep. Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts. If you have any ideas, could you let me know where you bought it also.
Thanks in advance.
Susan

Hi Susan:
We use a sharp garden spade for edging....

It isn't mechanized or fancy, but does a good job. You can cut as deep as need be to try to keep encroaching grass and roots from your beds.
It seems to be quite a chore that needs to be done on a regular basis. Too bad it couldn't be done once, and forgotten!
This is a little section between 2 beds. (late in the season)

I too use the spade. I have an edger attachment for my weed eater but my complaint is as you said it only cuts 2 inches deep, nowhere near enough. I have looked around and they all seem to only have two inch blades. I completely edge all my beds with a spade each spring (takes about two weeks) and again around mid-late summer. I use the power edger to tidy them up in between if needed. I keep the spade really sharp with a hand grinder, works great.

I'll have to do that on my front bed. We weren't definite on the shape of it last year, and it's gotten out of hand hhehe.
