These plants have flowers on last years growth but the old stems don't look very nice.
Should I trim them and will the new growth flower?

That is Rock Cress(Arabis sp.)....just let it bloom. It can stand a shear later on, but they are very early spring bloomers on last years growth.

I find the whites...nicer than the purples...very prolific self seeders though!
