I'd initially have gone with Periwinkle, too, Whiteteeth, but it's a monster of a tenacious groundcover once you give it the walking papers. Liking Sweet Woodruff as Murphy suggests. Saw some in deep shade at Royal Botanical Gardens where Inge identified it. Fantastic groundcover plant.

I can't enclose the space because we need to have access to the area. The deck surrounds an above ground pool and the power source for the pump is under there as well we need to get under it to cover it for the winter. I actually hit the jackpot yesterday. My friend has loads of large flat limestone rocks that I am going to use.
