Rose of Sharon - Zone 5a (I think)

Postby Gummibear » May 10, 2008 7:20 pm

hello :)

I'm looking for some help here. I see a Rose of Sharon that I love - but it's tagged as zone 6? and I know we are zone 5 a I'm pretty sure.

Will this survive in the area (it's being sold down the street at a garden centre)..

Any feedback would help.

I don't kow about different varieties of Rose of Sharon. To me Rose of Sharon is one type. I have purchased them in pots and taken roots from friends , and found they always grow in Zone 5.

Now I have six, that were mere twigs when put into place five seasons ago, and thay are over 5 feet tall.

I suggest buy, and plant in full sun, and water generously. It should thrive.

They are a lovely bush, and burst into blossom so suddenly that it is always a delight.

I have seeds started so I am hoping they survive in 5B

I will protect them this first winter tho and see how they do

MY best friend bought one and it didn't make it

But wondering if she planted something different

she calls her Christmas Rose and she says they are the same plant

I don't think so

Does any one know??

They are NOT the same plant.

Christmas Rose is a "Hellebore" and blooms in early spring,,mine is still blooming.
Rose of Sharon grows into a shrub, it starts blooming in July and blooms till frost. I have 7 of these beauties ,,some I grew from seed and some I got from a friend that were off shoots from the main plant and one I bought.
