Planting cedar tree

Postby CanadianWeasel » May 15, 2008 9:57 pm

Gardening neophyte here.

I've some cedar trees, specifically 'Smaragd'. I'm looking to plant them at the front of the house, thus my question.

How far from the house/foundation should I be looking to plant these things? According to what is said about said tree, they will grow from 7-15 feet in height and 3-4 feet in width and it is recommended to put them about 5 feet from one another.

Thanks.

Plant them out at least 1/2 the diameter of the tree from the house. So in your case, at least 2 feet but I would go about 3 feet. To me, nothing looks worse than having cedars too close to the house and pushing right up under the eaves.
