compost not a ant farm

Postby al_ush » May 16, 2008 10:41 pm

Does anybody know how to safely rid a compost of ants. The compost is eventually going to end up in my vegetable garden. At the moment it is looking more and more like an ant farm. I have not been able to locate the nest. Thanks in advance.

Ants don't normally like wet areas, so keeping your compost damp will stop them from creating a colony.
That being said, the ants maybe just raiding your compost for food that has not rotted down.
I would not worry about spreading it on your garden and working the compost into the earth.
