Golden Chain Tree - RIP?

Postby gardengirlbc » May 23, 2008 4:11 pm

Im in Abbotsford, BC and even though it has been a cold here (according to our standards!!) spring is technically here. The tulips have bloomed, the daffodils are done.

I have seen that other people have their Golden Chain Trees blooming now. They are gorgeous!

Except for mine. Mine does not have one leaf, let alone a flower.

Is it dead?? How do I tell??

It seemed healthy enough last year, I don't understand why it would just croak.
It's always fun until somebody breaks an ankle.

I love the Golden chain tree, what a shame if it's really dead but it sounds like it's made it's to plant heaven :(

When I'm unsure if a tree or bush is dead I break a piece of stem and if it's brown and brittle it's usually dead but if the middle is green then it's probably ok.

I love the golden chain tree too! I 2nd Thistle Gardens advice, and hoping there isn't a need for a tree funeral in your near future.

Scratch the bark and see if the underlying wood is showing any signs of green. Look for leaf buds? are they green or dry and brittle? It doesn't sound good though.
