Is this a weed? [photo]

I'm not much of a gardener, but the previous owners of my home were, and I'm trying to get the backyard garden into shape.

The plant in the attached pic seems to have sprouted up all over. They have stems like hollow straws. Is it a weed? Should I pull them all out?

I would say yes. A weed is anything that pops up where you don't want it. If you are in doubt about it you can leave some in to see what it is but it sounds like whatever it is is quite prolific so I'd be getting rid of it.

Although I don't know what kind, I do consider this is a weed and I do remove it. If left, it will spread seeds quite prolifically. So out it goes....

It looks like immature Jewelweed/Touch Me Not. Easy to weed now... easy to weed later . . . after it comes out in it's fragile orange 'snapdragon-like' flowers.

It's soooo easy to weed that I sometimes leave it in 'til after flowering. *smile*
