Trees and high Winds

Postby 06Honda » Nov 01, 2013 1:47 pm

Winds today from 80-100 KPH, noticed ghe ground moves or swell slightly on one of our large trees. Is this normal and natural to prevent the tree from coming down. The ground is not broken but it looks odd.

High winds that we experienced the other day, would stress many large trees. Considering the height, type of tree and soil that these trees are rooted in are issues that may explain why the soil would lift .....that being said, it sounds like this particular tree may have a weakened root system and I would keep an eye on this tree, especially if you notice it leaning a bit or soil lifting in lighter winds.....if it is close to your house or poses a dangerous situation, you may want to have a professional arbourist look at it.....
