Does anyone know what is happening to my fruit tree?

Postby PaperDog » Jul 22, 2014 8:49 pm

We've purchased an Italian plum tree about two months ago and I've noticed brown spots appearing on the leaves a few weeks ago. Also yesterday I also found this beetle bug thing eating the leaves.
Does anyone know why these spots are appearing and what that bug is?
I live in southern Ontario if that helps.

Thanks!

Your plum looks like it has bacterial leaf spot....a common disease of plums. It won't kill your tree, but will look unsightly through the summer. You could try to spray it with a mixture of copper sulphate, but the damage has been done and the application of copper sulphate probably won't stop the spread....

The beetle you have is a Japanese beetle, that will devour the leaves on your tree and is a serious pest.....few insecticides will kill this critter.....best to hand pick them off (if possible)
