Plant labels that last

Postby eljay2014 » Aug 20, 2014 5:27 pm

I'm looking to label some plants in my garden. I've used the dollar store plastic markers that I labelled using a Sharpie marker, but the writing disappeared over the winter...not good. What does everyone else use (besides the expensive Lea Valley copper variety). I need it to last at least through the winter

I just logged in to reply to the thread on using the slats from vinyl window blinds. They're the best for plant markers.

The blind slats are a great idea. Problem is the Sharpie marker didn't last through the winter. What do you use to write on them with?

The longest lasting marker, believe it or not, is pencil. It lasts thru sun and rain for years.

I use flagging tape (bright orange vinyl ribbon used in forestry, mining etc) and a sharpie. You can normally get flagging tape at camping stores

I use metal ones ordered from Lee Valley - it's a bit of an investment but they last forever http://www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page ... 33281&ap=1
