Your tomatoes are coming along great guns!
We've had just too much rain and another bad storm this afternoon and warnings of hail, high winds and more rain.

Yum - it all looks so good, butterfly. Lucky you. I can almost taste that cuc. Can't wait to get home to see my garden. I've been away since July 16, flying home tomorrow. Been living vicariously through this forum for a bit though,

Linda
I do not have any of the Iron Oxide soil
it is only on PEI and a small part of NS in Truro the next town west of me about 35 Kms has it and along Northumberland staight where they are finding all the diansoir fossels
But the red soil stops in Colchester county in NS at the counry line about 15 min from me
Some history on the red soil and why PEI has it
-----------------------------------------------------------
a few millions years ago, I forget how many there was an earthquaake
Part of NS on the Northumberland staight west of me, broke off plus the force of the quake up popped PEI
Islands are mostly developed by eathquakes pushing up the soil from under the sea. PEI was not always there
But that is where PEI came from and the red soil . Broke off from NS.
and BTW the red soil does not always mean it is the best soil. Often black soil is.
In fact in Truro colchester County and part of Hants Couty, where the land is all red soil, not many people garden there because it is not the best of soil I know this because I am from there.
Red soil being the best soil. Not always. Some people just think that because it is not often seen. Just different. A total misconception

BF, perhaps it is the Gypsum in your soil the toms like so much.
From Wikipedia:
"Gypsum is a very soft mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate, with the chemical formula CaSO4·2H2O.[1]
Fertilizer and soil conditioner.
In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, Nova Scotia gypsum, often referred to as plaister, was a highly sought fertilizer for wheat fields in the United States."

No gypsium in the soil in these parts
There is in the valley region tho,/ Not far from halifax. Annapolis Valley area where they grow all the apples
That area had wonderful soil. I don't know of anything that won't grow there
There used to be a gypsum mine in that area but think it is closed down and has been for a bout 15 years now
This is just south of halifax. When driving, you can see the white gypsum in th soil all along the banks along the highways Germans and dutch settled there because of the soil
But not a drop of gypsum here , lol don't I wish. I sometimes need to add calcium and of course calcium is in gypsum.
Pictou Cunty and onward, very clay . Antigonish area, about 1 hours drive from here East , a bit sandy Better farm land than here. Many dutch farmers settld there because of the soil
