Does any one grow cukes upwards?

I;d like to learn to grow veggiies up a fence or something upwards

I have a small space for growing veggies

My cukes spread all over the place and I need to lift the vines when I mow

Does any one grow veggies upwards and have pic to show?

can you do toms that way?

and what others kinds of veggiies can you grow that way?

I'm attempting to grow my cukes on a trellis. Climbing beans can also be grown in a similar fashion. Heavier fruits would be a problem due to the weight.

I am growing cukes on a trellis and I am also trying them on a tomato cage this year. I will try and takes some photos for you. I thought the cukes would grow straighter when grown this way, but the one I picked yesterday was almost in a circle? I let them grow on the ground last year and they were quite straight.

Now only Cross Country is grown. This type satifies my requirements, and Cross Country is a prolific producer. There are total of seven plants in three hills about 25 inches apart.


I put a trellis for the cukes to prevent them sprawling. This can be very precise if one wants to train the runners daily, but I slack off and let them trail to some degree.

Forget the grass, and let the cucumbers sprawl. Two cutting after the cucumber plantsa are gone, and the grass is back to normal.

I have my cukes growing upwards... they're in my greenhouse and they are doing great..... for heavier fruit you can use a pantyhose and put under fruit and tie up on trellis (kinda looks like hamocking the fruit!
