Tons of nice toms
But I wish they would ripen
WE've had no sun in 10 days or more, just rain , rian and more comin all this week
Will they ripen without sun or just rot?
If they aren't goin to ripen I might as well make chow with them

Patience BF!
You have a couple of more weeks before you should start worrying about whether your toms are going to ripen! Leave them; let them be. They look really healthy.
Although I've had a few red toms which I've been able to harvest, most are still quite green. I'm just going to continue to nurture them and take a wait-and-see stance.
It's been a horrible wet, cool, gloomy summer, and I am absolutely fed up with the mosquitoes!

Re: Tons of nice toms
It's a common fallacy that toms need sunlight to ripen. If mine don't ripen before the chill sets in I pick them and put them in the dark in a drawer in my bedroom. A ripe banana goes in with them to provide ethylene. Provided they are mature they ripen very quickly with no problems. Put a bit of foil underneath and check daily just in case there are any diseased ones.

Re: Tons of nice toms
I went back to my old favorites, Beef steak
Last year I grew Early girls hoping to eat them much earlier in the season
I also planted some beef Steaks
The early girls disappointed me
Although I had a great crop they ripen only a few days before beef steaks

Gr8 to hear Carolyn! The last couple of days we have been getting a few hours of sun here and there. Hopefully it's coming your way next!
