why are they not growing
it is 5 weeks since I planted red tarters. I pulled a plant today and they are tiny little red marble size yet
There is very small little flowers on the plants but not opening. The flowers have been the same looking since 2 weeks
Other people around here are eating theirs

Perhap you are in too much of a hurry. Some potatoes come later than others. You might wait till the foliage starts to turn brown. Another trick is to gently pull soil from around the roots, this will show you what you have without wasting a full plant. Replace the soil when finished.

Re: why are they not growing
Thanks
I am judging by others in the neighbour hood
They have been eating theirs since 2 weeks
Yes they planted 2 weeks before me but when I looked at the size of theirs and mine
I thought mine are so tiny they coudn't catch up in size in another 2 weeks not that much
Some of their spuds are the size of big beef steak toms. MIne are little tinny marbles

Re: why are they not growing
Size doesn't matter
I'm thinking 2 weeks can make a big difference for any plant, and not just the total time the plant has had to grow, but that first couple of weeks planted is vital.
Those 2 weeks your neighbour planted before you may have had better growing conditions than your plants 2 weeks.

Re: why are they not growing
Hi BF: Remember that when you planted your potatoes....July1st, we had a very long , dry period, so the growth necessary could have been delayed.
In average, one sees potatoes 3 or more weeks AFTER the start of bloom.
You still have lots of time for the potatoes to mature.

We haven't had any amount of thunderstorms....lots of rain though.
We have had a very nice potato crop this year.
We have been eating Superior for about 3 weeks. I think they are the best early potato.
Norland and Purple Chieftain are OK to dig, but we haven't used many yet.
I suspect the fingerlings might not be ready....they were later being planted, and later to mature.
Cheers
