Tough Tomato Skins
I planted some different tomaotes this year. Specially bred for the prairies and I'm not at all pleased with them. Are tough skins a result of the breed of tomatoe or of growing conditions?

Think either can be a factor, do you know the name of these tom's ? I'm sure a little search on google would be able to find some info for you.

It's all in the breeding, Lyn.
Most breeding of modern varieties includes tougher skin characteristics to resist cracking and catfacing - for a pretty tomato.

Thanks Inge, that's what I thought as I haven't encountered that problem with my growing methods before.

My no-names from the grocery had tough skins too. So I boil some water then pour it over them. Makes for a sloppy tomatoe samwich but what the hay, I wear my bib.
