Yes, Pink Fir Apple can be grown in containers.
I have grown them here in Canada, and my sister, in Banbury, Oxfordshire, grew the Pink Fir Apple in a large container too!

I've been envying the root cellars too. I really wonder if they are viable in Manitoba as it is so cold here. You can make a cold storage area in your basement if you have one, unfortunately I don't. :(
