Green house soil help

Postby Thistle Garden » Feb 01, 2009 3:01 pm

I moved into my house a year ago and inherited a large green house. It's not heated and is made with a wood frame and thick clear plastic.
I planted a few things in there last summer to test it out and the veggies grew well but so did the bugs, all sorts. I've done some reading and it seems the trick is to keep it clean and sterile which the previous owner did not do. So how do I kill all these little bugs easily, cheaply and greenly...
I've had a couple of suggestions like using boiling water, lye, wood ash but I don't know if these will actually work, especially the lye.

Any ideas?

You could try predatory nematodes available here towards the bottom of the page.

These will tackle any soil living 'baddies', and keep them down.
I intend to try them in the whole garden this year as I'm infested with all sorts of baddies.
Have used this company for other stuff and they're good.
