Better Tomatoes Via a Fertilizer of...Human Urine?
http://www.popsci.com/environment/artic ... r-we-think

Apparently, human urine works remarkably well as a fertilizer for tomatoes, according to a new study out of Finland.

Plants fertilized with a mixture of stored human urine and wood ash produced 4.2 times more fruit than plants without the pee, the study found. The urine-fertilized tomatoes had more beta-carotene than unfertilized ones, and much more protein than traditionally fertilized plants.

<snip>... The results are reported in the latest Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. ....Article continues....

I have actually heard of this a couple of decades ago and people swearing by it.

The article is dated... 3 yrs old. But still... Does anyone here pee on their tomato's? Don't be shy. Tell us.

No.
Apparently from one article/experiment that I read awhile ago, it is male urine that is the best since the female urine is too acidic.

I could make a few comments but I'll just stick with the fact that it makes sense because urine has a lot of ammonia in it. And no, I don't pee on my tomatoes.....

EDIT
So what you are saying is... Even my pee is better than eeyore-pee, kelly-pee and Ogrubber-pee? My pee outperforms woman pee.
And as an added bonus, I can write my name with pee. Can you?

Damn. yeah... Maybe you shouldn't have opened that door.

Just to add, in the article above they mention the pee they had was acidic. What they did was add woodash (which is basic) to it and raised the pH then applied it to the tomato's.

So, OGrubber, you can keep a pot of pee going at the house, scoop some woodash up from those summer time fires, mix it and apply.

Kelly will be the taste tester.

Surely as a scientist you've done the urine taste test Marc! My hubby and colleagues did when they were students!

eh... Nope.

I've done a few things that have cleared some pubs, a metro station, had police involved and whatnot as a kid with access to a chem lab (and all in good fun of course), but I never drank pee, that I know of. Although as a kid I did pee in a beer bottle and gave it to some other kid who wanted to be tough and he unknowingly drank it down and found it rather warm, but didn't complain about my taste.

Was this some sort of diabetic check via tasting urine? Didn't they used to do that way back when? There are a few tastes or smells when a person is sick that can be used as a diagnosis with a pee taste/smell, but it escapes me now. Even vets do this on cats & dogs (smell, not taste).

I'm not sure if I want to taste my pee. I wonder if the next time i pee I will get the urge?

This is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, even for me, but, has anyone else tasted their pee?

EDIT:
I think BBQ deviated. :p

I noticed they were all women taste testers, like Kelly will soon be.
