Experience with Plantskydd on Fruit Trees?

Postby Justanotherider » Mar 28, 2014 9:46 am

I'm struggling to keep deer out of a small mixed orchard and wonder if anyone out there can offer learnings regarding the use of Plantskydd. I have cherries, plumbs, pears and apples.

I'm concerned about application timing, product effectiveness, and what effects the material may have on fruit.

Thanks in advance for knowledge and tips.

I'm not familiar with that product so actually can't answer any of your concerns...
Fencing, I take it, is out of the question. Sometimes simply diverting them [deer] from a normal path into an area can be effective.
Just something to think about if you don't get any answers.

OGrubber:

Yeah, fencing would work; but my garden is in a side yard facing the road and a fence would look tres ugly, so I'm trying hard to keep the darlings away by other means...

I have some experience with this product. Its' effective enough in keeping critters away from select plants. I apply it basically after each heavy rain fall. I can't attest to its effectiveness through the winter though. it seems to be less effective at warding animals, probably because it is a scent based repellant, so it isn't as stinky when its cold.

Not sure how it will effect fruit trees though. We didn't really see any adverse effect in our crab apple tree but it is hearty and the fruit is kinda crumby anyways. it won't make your trees sick at any rate.

Hope that helps
