External lins do not open in a new window.
External lins do not open in a new window.
Clicking on a external link in a post does not open in a new window. this means when the link is closed the whole forum is closed, and one has to re-open.
It is possible to go back, but the usual procedure is to simply close the window, and your are back to the forum.

There should be a setting in your browser as to how external links are handled:
In current window
In current window in NEW tab
In new window.
If that's not possible, usually RIGHT CLICK, then click, will open an external link in a new window. Sometimes a MIDDLE CLICK if you have a multi-button mouse will do the same.
Sorry, I've never used IE so don't know how it behaves, and I'm a tab fiend, so have everything set to open in a new TAB.

IE7 automatically sets it up that a new window is open...you want tabs, I have tabs!!
What Durgan means is when a link is posted and you click on it, it'll open the link in this window, without the choice...

The new window issue is decided by the forum. The old forum worked just fine.
As Kelly stated the forum present set-up if the problem, and it is a major problem that needs addressing.

I find that after I've opened a link, if I want to close it I just click the back button rather than try to close it the old way. I do find that often Durgan's links don't open for me (as tonight) but will if I go back next day. Edie

Yes, some forum software will override the settings in a browser. Usually RIGHT CLICK will present some options, including the choice of opening the link in a new window.

Thanks skwij...that's all well and good, but like someone mentioned in another thread it's one more step that needs to be taken. It would be nice if that overide was not there...IMHO
Those who are not computer savvy would be having a very difficult time.
