Caroline you sure are a book of knowledge when it comes to troubleshooting! I followed the steps in the link to create a new profile....and Voila.....everything is back to normal. I see all Avatars, smileys, etc! Thanks so much! Now I can go away on Monday knowing that dh will be able to continue his ELearning.

Glad that things are working right again for you! Now see if you can find a file somewhere called bookmarks.html and import that file into the now-working Firefox. That will restore your bookmarks.

Dunno why Firefox profiles get corrupted, but it does happen sometimes. Thankfully, not often, if at all, for most people!

Do a search for folder or file called bookmarks.html or bookmarks.bak

If you know how to get to your profile folder (which is explained in the previous link) then you can migrate that file into the NEW profile, I think.

Never done it that way personally, I've always exported my bookmarks then imported them into a new profile.
