My "red" Amaryllis

Postby earwig » Jan 11, 2009 10:24 am

My friend who gave this to me, told me it was going to be red. Being an artistic person she had started the bulb in a very tall vase (she knows how I like to make bouquets), and had filled the vase with water and silver bulbs and red stars. Click pictures to make larger

A closer look at the blooms:

As the weight of the flowers was causing tipping, I placed a couple of wooden birds my uncle made me for my "bird tree" this summer. I have not put the legs on yet so they were perfect for keeping the bulb steady.

Not red of course, but a great match for my Kalanchoe which is just starting to bloom behind it.

My other three are just starting and I do have a red one in with them.

Great pic Betty and a beautiful bloom. I like the green throat. I think it has more character than the plain red one anyway

Thanks all, total of 7 blooms open this morning (between the two stalks), so really enjoying them on a cold white day outside.

Thanks Joan, he spends the winter carving and his gifts of wood folk art are appreciated by all.

I lost half of a tree in one of the storms we had so it had to be removed but I decided instead of cutting to the ground I would decorate with wooden birds and bird houses as it did have quite a few nice branches that things could sit on. Will post pictures in the spring after decorating.

Here is my Amaryllis taken yesterday. Two stalks do make for quite a show.

Gorgeous gorgeous photos Betty!! (Did I mention they are gorgeous?)

Love the wooden birdies and I can see they are putting in a fine effort there. Beautiful amaryllis!

Oh my gosh! Breathtakingly beautiful. That sure is a contender to be framed and hanging on someone's wall! :)
