OMG - I am having waves of envy and nostalgia. My garden in Northern AB was full of lilies and I loved each one except for anything orange or organey yellow. The exception was a patch of really beautiful native wood lilies that were a gift from a farmer friend who was cultivating this patch. They grew so well out west. Now I am in my new home in Ontario and will have what I suspect a completely shade garden with all the maples in the yard. Shade gardens are lovely but I long for lilies.

EYEORE.............YOU ARE BRILLIANT. I had totally forgotton about martagons..........I used to live way north in AB, and could not grow them, tried once and failed in spite of my best efforts. Anyway now that I am in a zone 4 they will survive quite nicely. Thank you so much for this tip, I'm still getting used to the difference between gardening in a zone 2 and now having a 4 maybe even a 5 in the right spot.

Martagons actually like cooler soil but should do well for you. They are fussy about where they are planted but once established should do well. They don't like to be moved or fussed with and shouldn't need dividing for about 10-15 years. Plant them in shaded areas. I don't have any.... yet.....

My message this morning didn't go through like I said ..Lyn, having those lilies in your garden is amazing..I think lilies is your favorate..I never see yet that some one here in Edmonton that has Lily the same as you have.... very pretty. Thank you for sharing ,Lyn..
