If you go to Scotland, to Berwick, they can sell you a confectionary called "Cockles"
but Wickepdia says it is the ventricles of the heart...

I don't know about confectionary in Scotland, or ventricles of the heart, but in England 'cockles' are tiny mollusc, like mussels or clams. Molly Malone sang of 'cockles and mussels' in a very famous Irish folk song. These were the sort of goodies bought when leaving the pub, for a late night snack whilst walking home - cockles, whelks, winkles. They must have tasted good after a skinful of ale! Not for me though!

and I have read some stories about those women who had to pick those winkles, the pain and frigid cold in their hands..and bare feet, as they picked...and made not-ever enough money to keep themselves and kiddies going when times were very tough...can you imagine standing in ice cold sea water, picking miniscule shell fish off rocks? ...and prices paid at source were never what they were at the final end, fancily dressed buyers having a treat!
You'd have to have a great sense of humour to comeup with "that warms the cockles of your heart!" wouldn't you? We use it so easily.
I wonder what it is like for those who "gather" escargots which I greatly enjoy...

Enjoying the soup this morning, especially the additives.
Liz - I have the same trouble with Trollious. Never sure if it will bloom or not, still hasn't done much. should really transplant it to a different location. Joan - that stump is amazing. A lot of hours went into carving that.
Not much for "T"
Here is old reliable tulips, that come up year after year. . .

Tradescantia Spiderwort - Also have heard them called Widow's Tears.
