what DH found in our woodpile
He brought it inside to give to the grandkids for show-and-tell. There's a wee nest inside.

Re: what DH found in our woodpile
Well, this was a dead tree standing in the water at pond's edge, so it could have been anything. We have been getting a local man to harvest these poor drowned trees for our autumn firewood (we don't cut trees (not even dead ones) in spring nor summer), cuz of possible nests.
Do you know what this crazy guy suggested to us?.....that we GET RID OF OUR BEAVERS, so as to save more of the forest.
Everyone else around here kills beavers, so maybe our pond is one of their last safe-havens.
However, the water is higher this year, and it feels as if we are pushing our property limits closer and closer to the road. Our paths are now too soggy to walk except in deep rubber boots, so hubby put a pipe into the dam a few days ago. The beavers are making the dam higher to prevent the loss of water, unaware of said pipe (guess they aren't all that smart). I will get pics today.
