mid August Garden

Postby Sharon Bryson Aug 17, 2009 10:44 am

Our mid August has been very hot and dry for Nova Scotia. We did have a bit of a rain shower this morning, but not much.
I find many parts are looking a little frazzled, but I suppose this is normal. (click for larger image)

I always regret seeing the daylilies finish up their main bloom period.
El Desparado is among the later ones.

....as is Strawberry Ice.

The double Condilla is quite late and has a long bloom period.

The heat certainly accelerates the demise of many things including the lilies. Many of the Oriental lilies are still quite nice.
Tom Pouce is in a slightly cooler part of the garden, so is still very "fresh".

This lovely golden one is OK, but I fear it is suffering from some crowding.

This yellow striped one is with a group of mixed Oreintals.

Black Beauty is one the the last of our lilies to bloom. I never know whether to welcome it or not!

Well, this hot weather has all of my parts feeling extremely frazzled! Although my garden seems to be adjusting to it, I hate the heat and I envied you yesterday when I noticed the radar map had clouds over your way for a brief time.

The plants have been spoiled with all the moisture and they only need to put their roots down a little further, I am sure there is moisture under there somewhere.

Your lilies are beautiful.

Lovely photos Sharon. Sounds like you're getting our weather and we're getting yours. Lots of rain this summer and it looks like more today.

Beautiful pictures, Sharon. Your garden still looks very pretty in spite of the hot, dry weather you are having.

Here on the prairies, we've been experiencing the opposite weather we should be......more than usual rains, winds and cooler temperatures and my plants are suffering for it. The types of flowers we grow in the prairies thrive on the conditions you are having in your area, but we've had little of it this summer :(
