Some other August miscellany
Jodi and I were taking a stroll which resulted in the lily pics, but there were a few other things that caught the attention. (Click for larger image)
The squash are doing a lot of trailing....meandering into the adjacent buckwheat patch. The buckwheat is in flower, and could be whacked down, but since the season is late, we may leave it.

The begonias are doing OK this summer, although this nice pink one has been slow to flower.

It has been years since I had any lavatera in the garden. My neighbor gave me a few plants which are getting to be quite lovely. I planted them in a daffodil patch to cover up a bit of bareness.

We grow a bed of Impatiens in this front area each year....this year they had a deplorable start, but are gradually looking quite reasonable. They are a mix of plants grown from seed and some bedding plants i picked up at the nursery when iIwas afraid my own would amount to nothing!

I believe this has to be the latest I have ever seen the Catalpa ovata still in bloom. Considering we wondered if they would ever leaf out, let alone bloom, maybe it isn't so odd.

The buddleia are beginning to bloom in earnest, although the white ones have yet to open. They are always a bit behind the purple.

Rose season is pretty much a thing of the past, but there are a few blooms here and there. This is Bonica.

Phlox are an integral part of the late summer garden and, in spite of varying degrees of mildew, have been very colourful and fragrant. The later phlox seem less bothered by mildew than the early ones.

'Bright Eyes' is one of my favourites.

There are even some foxgloves which are coming into bloom....I think these may be from a group with different parentage than the ones that bloomed in June/July.

Looking good Sharon. I was a tad worried about my Catalpa ovata too this spring. The leaves seem sparse and I thought it would never fill out. Doing great now though and just about done blooming.

Hi, Sharon.
Your catalpa is looking well! Ever since seeing yours, DH has wanted a catalpa.

DH has wanted a catalpa.
There is always the seed route....very fast as trees go.
We had big thunder showers last evening so the garden finally had a drink.
Hope we are not overwhelmed by beans and cukes today!
Cheers

Re: Some other August miscellany
while all are lovely, it is the abundance of Phlox that fills me with happiness at the sight of it...it has been a great year for phlox here too, altho I sure do not have as much as you.
Lovely, Sharon...lovely.

Nice, as always Sharon!
I love the shade of pink of the begonia peeking out!
I too love phlox, and although mine are quite good this year I'm afraid they're overwhelmed by too many other things. I'm longing for a cool, windy, weekend, (otherwise all the neighbourhood mosquitoes would descend on me!), so that I can get out and transplant a few oversized shrubs, so the Phlox may get a better chance to 'shine' next year!
