Re: Clematis 8 May
Hi Trish:
DH puts some clematis fertilizer on each spring, just as the new growth is starting.
I tend to cram in more than one clemmie in a limited space, and on that particular obelisk there are three, including the gorgeous 'Sweet Autumn' and 'Dr. Ruppel'.
I don't add compost. I do mulch the beds and the mulch decomposes naturally over a couple of years or so, so I reckon that's enough compost! lol I also give them the odd shot of soluble Miracle Gro during the course of the growing season.
Clemmies this year are doing well in my garden and there are now several with lots of blooms, i.e. Nelly Moser, Multi Blue, and others. Must have been that warm March.

My clematis are barely a foot off the ground yet, but it's coming!

Thanks, BBQ. I did not know there was a fertilizer formulated for clematis; I learn so much from the list members! It sounds like your clemmies do wonderfully well with it and will check it out.

Thanks, BBQ. I definitely need a product that doesn't lower the pH (yours says it doesn't affect the "sweetness" which is the same thing). Will see if I can find it.
