I didn't start them from seed!
I was in a local nursery about 3 weeks ago and they'd just had a shipment come in. They were very tiny, only about 2" high. I decided there and then to bring them home and put them into my tiny greenhouse until it was warm enough to put them outside. They were put into the pot just over a week ago. Morning sun, afternoon shade.
This pic taken less than 5 minutes ago.
It's a good way for me. On the other side of the walkway is a twin pot with annual herbs and peppers. That pot gets morning and afternoon sun, and it too is doing very well.

Re: Just Picked!
Looks awesome, Brenda! Last year, Lowe's had a really nice, fair sized oval planter of lettuces, priced @ $20.; managed to pick one up on clearance, for around $2.00, and babied it back to health.
It was going great gangbusters, so, had a few snacks from it,, but, unfortunately, much of my yard & plants were, for the most part, ignored, after the end of July. The stuff got watered, but that's about it, so, needless to say, the lettuces all bolted and went to seed, without us ever using any more of it.
Will keep an eye out for them this year; I'm the only one who likes leaf lettuce, and I can't stand to think there were slugs or earwigs on it, so, the planter addressed both issues, and didn't use up valuable real estate in my veggie garden.
