beans
14 days ago I planted a row of yellow beans
They normally are up in a few days. There is not a sign of them
yet I planted green beans last Tues and they are up 4 inches all ready
What happened to the yellows??
No carrots or chard yet either and its 14 days
Beats are barley peeking after 14 days and just one here and there. They normally would be long before this
Raccoons are digging the garden up, they left their calling card
Did I plant too early or what??

Beans like heat, if it is cool they will often not germinate or germinate poorly. I don't put beans in until about June 1, and lose no time at all.
Chard and beets always come up-give them time. Carrots are slow and don't like high temperatures for germination above 80 soil temperature they won't germinate. Keep carrot moist with a watering can several times on a hot sunny day. My best carrots germinate in a slightly shaded part of the garden without fail.
