Nicely done! Now give the children a few square feet of space for a vegetable patch. A downspout collector for rainwater would be nice. You are a good parent, most admirable. Congratulations.

lol. I have just that already. They have beans, peas, cucumbers, lettuce, brinjal, tomato, zucchini, strawbs, and spinach growing. My hubby has hot peppers.
Also as the garden gets bigger and more watering is needed, we installed two 1000 litre tanks on our downspouts. All water falling in our gutters is now collected in these tanks. It was a blessing last summer when we had water bans in our area.

Love these ideas on some more interesting plants! thank you. I will keep my eye open for them. Monkshood is poisonous, unfortunately.

What a great idea. I will be having my two small grandchildren to stay a few times this summer and I can just imagine the fun they would have with this.

We did build the fort ourselves this spring. Much cheaper to do it ourselves!
We still have to add some climbing attachments, like monkey bars.
My son (7) had a friend over this weekend, and he dragged his friend to come and see 'my garden'. I stood a little away to give them space, but just within earshot. My son was showing his friend each plant and naming them! 'here's lungwort, and dragon's blood, and there is spiderwort...' It was so cute, then up the fort they went.
I also found a huge ceramic toad at a garage sale to sit by the entrance. I didn't tell the boys I had it, just quietly placed it there. Only later that afternoon, did I hear my youngest son shouting 'I found a huge toad! Come and look!' I said 'how did that get there' lol

What a neat idea! Great way to get your sons interested in the garden. And wonderful that you can share this experience with them. Since your 7-yr old so ably rhythmed off the names of 'his' plants, he's obviously learning a lot.
