You don't necessarily need a pergola! Plant a grape vine and let the vine do its thing!!

Lulu,
These grapes are Concord Grapes (dark purple) and they ripen late in Fall(if we don't get a Frost, before hand). The cool weather makes them sweet in the Fall

This is the pergola hubby and I put in the back yard this past spring. I like the style so much that next year I plan on putting a matching one on our back deck. I think a pergola on the front of the house would be fine, just do your homework and get something that really looks good with your house.

Maybe they have a goth garden with all kinds of dramatic dark plants like New Zealand flax, Tropicana Cannas and Diablo Ninebark...
