Hmmm I like the vine idea. Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia, zone 2), or Hops, or both. Or a hedge of arctic willow. Not sure if they're hardy in zone 2 though. My neighbors have some and they get huge and take a lot of abuse.
