climb up a cedar hedge?
We have a very dense healthy 10 foot high cedar hedge down one side of our suburban backyard. There is a significant portion of the length this hedge that could be considered full sun i.e. west afternoon sun. (In fact it is the only section of our backyard with such a sunny exposure). Is it at all possible to plant a full sun climber e.g. clematis up against these cedars? Could it actually climb up these evergreens successfully? Any suggestions how I could take advantage of this sunny location to allow for flowering climbers?

I googled to see if one could, and looks like it will work. Heres a link

Thanks Countrychic for doing this research. It does give me hope. I think I will try this next spring.

I was reading a British book that's called Success with Clematis by Marigold Badcock, and iirc it had a section about training Clematis on evergreens. I just dropped it off at the library, but you might be able to find it in yours.
