I was at the Canadian Tire in Lindsay today and they had Emerald Cedars on sale for $15.99 The were 4' and looked very healthy. That is a very good price for mature trees. Check out your local Canadian Tire and try and get the same price.

I really like Dan's idea of trellises of incremental heights. It would allow for your privacy without completely cutting off the airflow or sight lines in your space. You could experiment with different plants this way too without committing to a "permanent" hedge. Looking forward to seeing the results!
