Growing Garlic, onions and fruits

Postby johnjf » Apr 30, 2011 1:40 pm

I just bought some onion and garlic bulbs, I also bought eggplant and cantoloup seeds.

How would I go about planting these outdoors? do I need to buy some type of soil before I plant them?

and should I plant the seeds indoors first or can I plant them outside also?

can I just dig up the ground and clear any rocks etc and plant them?

Thanks

Garlic is best planted in the fall, like tulips, daffodils and similar bulb crops , but should produce some decent bulbs planted now .. Onions can also be planted outdoors now. You don't need any special soils for them .. any decent garden soil should be fine . Eggplant and cantaloupe are both frost sensitive , so will need starting indoors to plant out after all danger of frost is gone and soil has warmed a bit . They benefit from some compost or manure worked into the soil, but no special soils are needed .
