pruning a tree/bush in my front yard

My tree/shrub started life as a maple tree planted with other trees with great enthusiasm when the yard was new. Four yrs ago we had five trees removed to open up the yard to more sunshine. We left the maple tree stump at about 18" to serve as a pot stand. Well.....the stump sprouted. We liked the look as a bush & I keep it pruned to about 6 ft. high x 6ft.wide. Hafta admit it looks better as a bush than it ever did as a tree.LOL.
