Bio Garden and Lawn

A co-worker trying to sell his house sent me this article about garden staging(hoping that I will understand the underlying request to come help him around his garden this Sunday ).

Nicely written article about some tips, but something really caught my eye. It was the part about keeping your lawn maintained through using many chemicals either to kill weed or to adjust the pH levels.

I'm not really OK spilling these chemicals around my house and around the storm drains (that eventually end in a water treating facilities that produce waters for our homes) etc.

Do you have your own non-chemical ways how to maintain your lawn?
