While hubby shoveled, Diane played...
I was supposed to be clearing off the deck, but I noticed that there were huge chunks of ice under the snow. like these:

Lightbulb moment: after shovelling a small space, I made an inukshuk: (well, not right away just like that - first I had to go inside, google inukshuk (which I misspelled a few times) to learn how to make one.

since hubby had finished the driveway, and was now shovelling the walk, I decided to collect all the larger chunks of ice, and made a second one, before somebody else
cleared the deck, destroying all the nice ice chunks:

I did eventually get most of the deck cleared (who needs an entirely clean deck anyways?),

but I love being able to see my wee work of art and culture from inside the livingroom:

Winter isn't all bad . . . it brings out the kid at heart.
Very good use of ice and no carving needed.

I wish I could make one out by the road, to share with passers-by. I wonder how long they'll last?
The forecast is for cold, cold and maybe more snow in a few days. I cannot see myself going out with a feather duster to keep the snow off these babies, but one never knows!

I love it, I have always wanted to make one from the flat rocks I have around here and I am adding to my "must do 2009" list.
I must play around with some ice when the conditions are right. Thanks for the inspiration.
