Do you know someone like this?
I know of two people who often close their eyes while talking to you. I know it is just not the vision of me they are trying to shut out as they do this to everyone.

Nope, but I would prefer that than the ones that have to get right into your face as they talk.

I have met a few people who do this! ....ever so strange, don't you think? Maybe they're just shy, or have trouble thinking with their eyes open?

I do know a couple people like that nd my opinio if someone cannot look at you while speaking they are not being honest
Ask any cop
Also those who are in my face and spit all over me while talking can get lost
Neither one I trust as both methods of speaking is a sign of pure unthruthfulness on their part
again ask any one who studies and teaches body language

No, I don't, but I suspect it helps them "gather their thoughts".
I do know people who's eyes dart everywhich way while talking to you, and those that get in your personal space [as Betty mentioned].

My neighbor does this all the time. Dont know what her problem is but i have caught myself looking at her with her eyes closed. They can stay closed for 3 to 5 seconds. Drives me bananas. jazz

Re: Do you know someone like this?
i had a plant physiology prof who delivered whole lectures with his eyes mainly closed. Would check his notes, then close his eyes and speak. He would do the same if you went to talk to him in person., Everyone found it odd. But we thought he was just afraid of personal contact with people, and he WAS a nervous wreck. But he was a very good teacher, even so.

My neighbor is a good person with personal and health problems. Maybe this is the reason. But everyone to a point has problems health or personal. So why does this happen. Jazz

Perhaps, as Grubby says, they are gathering their thoughts. If they did it for too long I would feel that they didn't want me to get a word in edgewise.

I am quite shy, ever since I was a young girl I can remember just liking being in the back ground without having much attention on me.I don't talk to people with my eyes closed but do glance away from time to time while talking to people.
I do hope people are not offended by this.
