Where do you store your flour?

Postby Ron Evers » Dec 18, 2008 1:03 pm

We of course keep a canister of flour in a kitchen cupboard but have bulk storage downstairs. I built this cupboard with a slide-out flour bin with a 5 gallon pail inside for the all purpose flour. It holds a 10 kg bag of flour.

We keep the whole wheat flour in this old crock that I made a wooden lid for. You can set a whole sack of flour in this baby.

Nice work on the cupboards Ron. :) I sure wish I was at that stage of the reno here. lol

Before I put in the basement tho I used to have a yearly influx of Field Mice into the house. Flour was always bought in small bags and stored HIGH. lol

That;s a great idea Ron

I have the same as your first pic and also the same for garbage

My contractor when I buillt here thought I was crazy. I did the design of my cabinets and added them in. He aid he never saw this before but I hardly beleive that

But one thing I can't tolerate is garbage pail sitting on the floor in full view, I found plastic pail to fit then insert the bag

I;ll post a pic

It looks like a normal cabinet

Then this one has a plastic liner for the bag. it just pulls out. Lol,lol I need to empty it. Same idea for flour

For years I stored extra flour etc in the freezer....then I stopped, for some foolish reason...I must like bugs, funny I thought I didn't.

by the way, I'm told that yeast will keep up to five YEARS in the freezer...

We buy our yeast at the bulk food store (way cheaper) & keep it in the refrigerator.

I don''t keep flour in my bin. I don't use enough to buy big bags

I use it for other storage. it was in the cabinet design for future resale

I buy only little bags and keep it in another cupboard

"I" don't buy big bags of anything either, but I'm not the one who does the majority of the shopping. I have a giant sized box of Special K breakfast cereal in the cupboard...will do me for a year...anyone want it?

I don't use a lot of flour, but what I do have I keep in a large plastic container

with a tight fitting lid.No bugs ever.Do the same with my brown & white sugars.

I really hate bug life in the house...so if anyone bugs me look out.
