Re: Apple Picking Time
Ron thanks for the tip. Last week I had to pay $29.00 shipping for an item that cost $12.50.
Dumbo you can buy frozen pie crust all rolled out and ready to use. That should make cooking a pie a little easier for a novice

Re: Apple Picking Time
I'm not worried about it. I'll try all the recipes here. Seems easy enough. Not sure if my bread machine does a pie dough... I think it does, so I'll try that too.
I have a bunch of peaches and plums.. does peach or plum pie exist?
EDIT:

Re: Apple Picking Time
Ron,
I just ordered a wallet for my daughter. It was $200 and went through USPS (equivalent of CP) and I owed almost $70 in shipping, taxes and fees. I shudder to think what it would have been through FedEx or UPS. It would be nice if they just stated clearly what postage would cost. My MIL got a Christmas parcel from her son in Michigan and it cost her over $80 to retrieve it from the courier company.

yes, peach pie does exist! Does your local bakery not have these?
use the plums to make jam.
No Frills or any Presidents Choice store sells Honey Crisp apples, when in season. It is our favourite. Spartan is a second.
I am looking for a recipe for apple dumpling. Or whatever it is called that they sell at the Fall Fair. It is a whole peeled apple, Cortland I think, covered in caramel sauce and baked with a pastry crust over. DEVINE! yes, shouty capitals needed! Anyone know what I mean? lol

Oh yes,,Apple Dumplings,,yum,yum!!
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 1/2 cups water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Bring this to boiling , remove from heat and add 3 Tbsp. butter or Marg.
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt (I use less)
2/3 cup shortening (I use Becel)
1/2 cup milk
6 medium whole apples , peeled and cored.
Mix together dry ingredients, cut in shortening till mixture resembles course crumbs.
Add milk all at once and stir just until flour is moistened.
Divide dough into 6 equal pieces and flatten into 6-inch rounds. Wrap the dough around a whole apple and place in an ungreased pan. Pour syrub over dumplings, sprinkle with sugar if desired. Bake at 375 for 35 minutes or till apples are done. Baste with syrub during baking . Serve warm with milk or cream. Suburb!!

Apple Dumplings! Not something I make but my mother did a variation of it.
I don't have a recipe but it was:
Whole apples, cored, (probably Bramley, which is a cooking apple), stuffed with brown sugar, golden sultanas, spices - wrapped in pastry and baked.
We would eat with custard or vanilla ice cream.
