Where did they go ?
There were no Asian lady bugs this year. Not even one anywhere. I did see a few red lady bugs though.
I sure don't miss them but I am curious to find out why they disappeared.
Does anyone know?

Re: Where did they go ?
I read somewhere that the Asian ladybugs are declining due to some kind of fungus disease. Not sure if it also attacks the native species?
I saw one of the Asian varieties with the orange legs yesterday, but all the other ladybugs I've seen in the garden this summer have been native species...so that's at least positive.
No Japanese Beetles here as yet...she said, knocking loudly on wood!!!

Now that you mention these ladybugs CC i don't remember seeing any this year. Last year we had hundreds and some managing to get indoors. Hopefully they will not return and that our good red bugs return in abundance.

Do you have Japanese beetles in you area, Kelly?
No Japanese beetles here thank goodness. Maybe they think it's not worth attacking one lone rose bush. I would like to plant some rugosa roses but I do worry I would lose them to those nasty Japanese beetles.
The only reason I noticed there were no Asian ladybugs is because the other day I saw a red one walking on my kitchen window and it reminded me of those horrible biting orange ones. I'm glad they are gone.

Hordes of them. For a coupleo f years now.
major cause of grub damage too, this time of year.
best thing to do....for those with them...USE JAPANESE BEETKE TRAPS!!!! They are amazingly effective....the more adults you trap the less grubs in your lawn.....

Re: Where did they go ?
Ha Ha, laughed myself silly last spring at work when I opened a box that I was supposed to load onto the shelf - Japanese Beetle Traps. Well, I had never heard of Japanese beetles so I looked it up on the government website.
Hello buyers? we don't have Japanese beetles in BC - didn't anyone tell you people that down there in the big shiny purchasing department? How do I know? Like I said, I had to look it up, but it was easy to find out....
So, that is the problem with big box stores - you can't stock them all with the same stuff - we can't sell things aimed at a problem we don't have...
