Trying something new.
I get tired of my containers drying out so fast so this year I filled the container bottoms with maple leaves.This should stop the water from draining out to fast and supply the plants with nutrients.I'll let you know how it worked out.

Bill, I use coir fibre and add it to the soil mix in my pots. I find that it works well.

At camp when I first started using half barrels for planting, I filled them half full with all the stuff (pine needles and leaves) that we raked up in the yard in the spring. Also added shredded newspaper. Then filled it with potting soil. Just needs topping up and a bit of mixing when I replant each spring. Edie
