I want to grow vegetables indoors

I want to know if anyone has any advice about growing herbs and vegies in the basement under lights in the winter organically 
.
So far we have tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and bokchoy in pots in the laundry room. I want to try mushrooms yet for sure and possibly more vegies.
Has anyone had any success with trying this? The seeds I used were all dwarf varieties and some were for the Japanese market and meant to grow in containers.

PS If anyone else out there has a 15 year old.....don't let them read the 100 mile diet or you end up growing tomatoes and bok choy in your basement.
