A Wedding!

Hi all!
Spring is coming to Manitoba and I am getting excited about my flowers again!
This year will be special as we will be having a wedding!
That's right! My daughter is getting married on July 3rd. The wedding will
be taking place in my sister's backyard. I am planting 13 pots of flowers
which will all be used to give color to the backyard. And the colors are Pink and Orange!
I am thinking of impatiens, begonias, zinnias.....any other arrangement ideas
you could give me would be most welcome! Thank you in advance!

What about Dahlias? There are some lovely ones out there.

What a great idea.
Do dahlias do well in pots?
I usually plant my pots in mid to late May.
Would they look okay by July 3rd?
And how are they with being "bug resistant"
Out here on the prairies, we sometimes have trouble with aphids and such
when there are long dry spells.

I'm trying to find out but I think Dahlias need to be started earlier.

I would start them now for a nice bloom by beginning of July.

Judging by what I saw today....beautiful here in Southern Manitoba
But my husband tells me not to hold my breath. It is after all Manitoba and
the weather changes by the hour....sigh
Oh well, I am seeing patches of grass and lots of water...must mean something!

I just love weddings.I love the color choice(I was thinking of doing pink and orange in my pots this year) maybe try a supertunia in orange with your pink impatients.This is a picture of orange supertunia I took in my neighbor's yard last year.

I hadn't thot of those flowers. I imagine you are thinking of the trailing variety.
I had some of them in yellow last year and they were beautiful.
Thanks also for your well wishes...my future son-in-law is spanish,
so color is definitely on the menu.
It will be outdoors beside a lovely fish pond.
We are setting up a tent and will have a bbq after.
I was also thinking of floating some candles/lites on the fish pond for effect.
What would I use with the ever present Manitoba breezes. Although the backyard is
very sheltered. I will probably be asking tons of questions...first time with this

yep it's Manitoba and if you don't like the weather wait a minute!
mighty chilly out there this morning but streets were lakes yesterday (they're a bit slow steaming the storm drains here), took the gkids to play at the park and today I see garden soil!!!! spring is on it's way!
and now for the wedding...I love holding weddings in my gardens. have had 2 and a co-worker has asked to use my gardens the end of august.
lighting the pond in windy manitoba..hopefully the plantings will block a bit of the wind but you could also try putting a small glass votive holder onto one of those dollarama lily pads and putting a tealight in instead of a votive..should work

I saw some battery operated tea lights on tv . . . Cityline probably,you could check thier web site they usually tell where you can buy things seen on the show.

If you could use them they wouldn't be bothered by the breezes.
