Growing an avocado tree on my desk
Re: Growing an avocado tree on my desk
Oh yes, I rotate him every day!
By the way, I have stopped feeding him coffee - I only did that twice. I have a friend with a PHD in plant biology who told me that even though it has short term benefits, it's very bad to do that in the long term because the acidity in the coffee would kill the roots.

So there really IS a reason to not let youngsters have these things .... and you can back that up with a PHD if he gives you any arguement ....

Looks a bit like a helicoptor, but a HEALTHY one
Maybe it's taking time off to allow the root system to catch up to the leaves.
And Geekery feeds my family....it's a noble madness. If anybody knows where I can get 12-sided fuzzy dice, I'll proudly hang them on the new car!

Re: Growing an avocado tree on my desk
So, this week there has been some progress... most notably, the single sprout at the top has now divided into 3, which is a great sign. Soon these 3 tiny leaves will be as big as the full grown ones! The trunk is also getting a little thicker, but overall, it's still not growing as fast as I'd like it to (but isn't that always the case?).
So, on Monday, we will create a poll in the form for what we deem are the top 10 name suggestions that we have received, and we'll let everyone vote to determine the winning name. Again, the winning name goes on an official name plate! So if you have any last minute name suggestions, please let us know before Monday. Thanks!

*shrug* I may not win the "give Timotree his/her final name" but I WAS the person who came up with the contest idea...
...That mean's I'm its Godmother (Godplanter?) nomatter what!
I promise to give Timotree the proper education befitting a young urban avocado growing up amongst the trials and tensions of the 21st century.

Re: Growing an avocado tree on my desk
This is FANTASTIC!! What inspiration! In Canada, it's too cold to grow them outdoors... I can't WAIT to do this on my desk! Thanks so much for sharing!!
